That link just goes to the site homepage, not a link to a tire? What brand/model tire is it?

Those are awesome tires and the tire of choice for the mud up here in alaska on the ATV's. But there was some testing done on here a little while back and they do not swim very well at all from what I read.

rdr ,

I have to disagree with you on this . In my experience , and the experience of two of my friends that use ATV tires on their amphibs , this all depends on the tire and its tread design , if you plan to use it on your amphib

These are some examples :

1. The Mud Bug tires will hardly move you in the water if they are facing backwards , they need to face forward to scoop the water . They work better for traction this way too .

2. The Swamp Fox plus , ATV tire , works much better if you face them foward for maximum traction , and also the same way for water speed . They will not scoop the water near as well if they are faced backwards .

3. The High Lifter , Out law , ATV tires , that come standard on the Hydro Traxx 6x6 , are faced forward for maximum water speed . Check out their website . Facing forward , the Out laws scoop the water and propell your amphib forward . This hardly works if you face them back wards .

4. Vampire ATV tires work better for water speed and traction facing forwards

Any ATV tire that you plan to use on an amphib , you will need to study the tread pattern , and this will determine if you face it forward or backward , for water propulsion .

Mud tires

Mud tires are weird. If you think they'll swim you can bet they won't. Here is my experience. I have been in the swamp with Lee's Argo Frontier with six mud Bugs facing forward. It swims somewhere between 1 to 1 1/2 mph. Six vampires forward-about 2 mph. Swamp fox Plus-one foward backward forward about 1 1 1/2 to 2 mph. One thing they all have in common, you have to let them paddle. You don't go into the water and rev them like an aatv tire, you just ease on the throttle and let them go to work. Lee's argo with six mud Bugs facing forward (I have videos posted of his machine in soupy mud and running with me in the swamp) eats mud better than ANY AATV or QUAD I have ever seen. He flat embaresses quads who won't even come around and challenge him anymore. But in water my max with vampires and swamp foxes walked away from him (once again I have video posted of us in the swamp together. This is my experience. Check out the video your self. Thanks

This mud pit that Lee is moving through took several high lifted quads with outlaws and gorilla tires up to a 1/2 hour to move through. Again I have video of Max Max sitting behind this big Quads waiting for them to move so I could drive on through in about two minutes-enjoy!!

ok take you stock trires and face them foward and see where you go .. around in a circle ... benn there tried that . the princel that makes a tire swim is bringing the water to the center of the tire . not trowing it out robbie

Ok, if you were refering to " stock " amphib tires such as rawhides or terra tires , I will agree with you on this . You are correct . But , where ATV tires concerned , this is not true " most " of the time . My Gator tires won,t swim at all , backwards or forwards , but the Mud Bug tire will swim , and it is almost an indentical copy . The only difference is , the tire lugs are further apart and taller on the Mud Bugs , when compared to the Gators , and the outer curve of the tire lugs on the Mud Bug , is both longer and more pronounced . This is what makes them swim and the Gator tires don,t . This holds true with the High Lifter Outlwaws , because the outer tire lugs are curved to scoop mud and water , but the spacing of the center lugs shead mud , and do nothing for water propulsion . The Swamp Fox plus tire scoops water from the center and outer curvature of the lugs , and the Vampire tires scoop water from the center .
