      Here is what the Superbright LED light strip that I am using to light up my engine compartment looks like when it's off. They are completely sealed (waterproof) and include internal resistors so all you have to do is connect them to a 12V source.

      Wow, you just had to go there. Kick a guy in his weakest moment. Yes, they are fused.

      On a serious note. After I got home from our trip last time I found out that one of my fuses had blown but not completely hence the fire.
