I want to build a canoe rack for my 2004 Avenger, does anyone have photos of homemade racks suitable for a 14 foot canoe they can share?

Second question; although i would like to buy Adair tracks, budget constraints dictate that is an investment for a few years from now but in the meantime, has anyone used tire chains on 25 inch wheels for plowing?

This is what the first owner of my 2006/7 Argo made to carry his canoe/ kayaks to the lake ...it is made from light steel exhaust tubing with welded construction , he made plate mounts that he attached to the brush guard and handrail then bolted the carrier to that ...

As to the tracks I have gotten a set and like them a lot make it a whole new different machine ... as for chains I would be worried about tire to body clearance with chains ....

    Welcome

Thanks guys, some very helpful ideas in these pics.

Unfortunately HF does not ship to Canada but i have seen a similar rack at Princess Auto so I will check it out.

If chains are a clearance issue, has anyone used screw in studs?

If you can, what would happen if you took 3 31 inch by 11.5 tire chains, hooked them together (with D links that screw together) and ran on that? IF you get the Cam lock style, they dont use bunjie cords.... why would that not work? It may be a bit hard on the tires for daily use, but to plow a drive way? So long as it isnt ever night. IF tire scrub becomes an issue you could always cut garden hose, and zip tie it onto the sides of the chain to keep it from scrubbing your tires.

Found a couple of options for the rack idea, Princess Auto has a cheapo steel rack (made by Buffalo) for $139.99 that looks just like the one from HF, I will check one out on my next visit. 500 lb Cargo Truck Rack | Princess Auto

Only 50 lbs, so not a terrible impact on COG. Also thought about the Cabela's canoe loader that would fit on the hitch receiver, I would have to come up with a simple rack to support the front, likely connected to the brush guard. http://www.cabelas.ca/index.cfm?page...n2=1226&ID=925
