  • Rack help

I have been working on a rack for my Conquest but I am having designer block. The legs / mounts / bracing are all stainless, but the top basket is aluminum and can be removed. The basket slides between two pieces of SS angle at the top.

From the bottom of the basket at the front I am going to run a 1/8 alum roof that will attach to an alum windsheild frame. The roof will have 2" of drop from the back to the front. I will also run alum round pipe from the front lip of the Argo to the windsheild frame.

On the basket I was toying with a way for it to slide back and then brake over/down at say 45*. I could tehn load the basket and either push it back up or pull it up with the winch.

Hell I dont know I have brain lock, any ideas?

    Update on my Argo rack

With Hunting season over and Drag racing still a ways off I finally had time to work on the Argo. Last night I put the front roof on my Conquest and all I have left is to build my 3" aluminum front pipe bumper and attach it to the windsheild frame.

The back legs for the basket are SS, so they can support the weight of what I put on top, everything else is alum. I have two LED light bars for the top and a marine radio install before I am done. It now has 90 hours on it and I dont think I can wait for the engine to get old, I might swap to the 27hp Kaw this summer.

Anyway tell me what you think

      Looks nice
I would suggest using a length of Angle Aluminium down the sides and around the back of the machine at the splitline to mount the rack, instead of the small mounts. Just to distribute the weight over a larger area.
Also, with the open design of the basket, you might get water dripping down the back of your neck when it rains.
Nice design though, I might build a similar one when I have time.

I am going to have a canvas top made for it that snaps to it with SS snaps and it can be rolled up and tied, like a military jeep.

The back legs and stand are made with SS and the basket is Alum. My plan was to have the legs fold back with the basket so it would be easier to load and then pull it back up with the winch and put the pins back in. I had my guys do CAD drawings for the whole deal but I got lazy.

The front bumper is next, it will be a 3" main alum pipe with a 2" alum pipe hoop over the winch. The headlights will be ringed with 1" alum pipe. The hole bumper will be air tight and it will all be connected so it will double as an air storage tank. It will have a quick connect air fitting, pop off valve, and guage, so if I have a flat I will have air.

I need to figure out how to attach the 1" pipe from the bumper to the windshield without welding it. I want to be able to either remove the bumper or the rack without taking it off as a whole unit.

While I don't recommend putting anything on top as it will greatly affect the center of gravity with a potential roll over, one possibly easy way to make the rack lay down is by using something like what's on a compact tractor with foldable ROPS. Should lay down even with the body if used at the top and bottom of each upright, however will be a major pain to lift once loaded.
