  • is the right?

I just finished my rebuild on my 1987 nkb 8x8(premagnum). its got a GA**** trans. M18 kohler motor(tuned up), new belt, all new chains and bearings. when turning in high gear on grass it slows down to a crawl. it does turn but it is really pulling on the motor. It this normal? I compression tested it last fall and it had about 120psi on both cyl. it running at about 3500 rpms. look for info. thanks

Check your CVT clutches. It sounds like it isnt back shifting. When you turn, and it slows down, your clutches should change. good luck and let us know If it is the case, hose them down with break clean (one can each) and see if that gets the junk out so they will shift easy again. (they could be gummy)

nope, just remove your belt, and opperate them by had (compress the driven) and hose it down. Might be a good idea to put something under neath to catch the gunk. Also, you can use a scotch bright pad and rubbing alcohol on the shive faces of the clutchs. That will clean it up.

well, i cleaned them. they weren't that dirty. then it test drove it, and its still the same. the primary(on engine) must be ok since the motor is still getting dogged down when turning. The seconary it working...but at full throttle the belt (new) only goes down about 2 inches in the clutch. when i turn the belt works its way backup close to the top. at full throttle where should the belt be located on the secondary? at the bottom? thanks for any help. ps the hour meter works and reads 406hrs. is it time to get new clutches?

The rear two tires in your avatar look like they are up in the air. is there a reason for that?

Are you saying the belt goes down two inches in the primary? Seems like it is sticking there. Do you have problems on hills too? When your going up a hill, does the enging bog down?

At wide open throttle and top speed the belt should be up high in the primary (off the engine) and burried in the secondary.

WHen you turn, it should be like the above, and when the machine "Slows down" the clutches should react and the belt move deeper into the primary (off the engine) and the belt should (at the same time) move out toward the edges of the secondary.

Just a question, when the engine is off, reach your hand down there and "push" the belt down. If your secondary's spring tension is wrong the belt will move down deeper in the secondary with little or no resistance. (that would be an easy fix)

To give you a visual learning aid,

watch it a few times and pay special attention to 2:35 Is your argo "back shifting" Are the clutches sensing when it is under extra load such as up hill or a turn and reacting appropriately?

Thanks for the great video. I found my problem... it was the new thumb thottle cable needed adjusted and the carb need adjusted too. The engine was only getting up to 3200 rpms. i got it up to 3600 rpms and it turning great! and gain alot of topend speed. The clutches are doing what they are supposed to now. i guess the clutches are set for 3600 rpms because now the primary (engine) clutch goes almost to the outside edge and the secondary (trans) goes in alot deeper at full throttle, like the video showed. Thanks for all the help!
