  • 2005 Avenger - front bearing replacement

Although I have the service manual down loaded I am asking others for any advice on replacing the front bearings (right side at this point). What sort of "trouble" might I encounter aside from very little space in that section of the Argo?
One poster highly recommends heavy duty bearings because of the lack of space, but all I have on hand today is standard bearings. Any advice? (I've never worked on Argos before, but have experience with Honda Rancher repairs.)
    Thank you.

Edit: What size wrench do I need to remove the bolts? What size Allen wrench? I as because basically all my tools are metric and I read that the bolts, etc, are SAE.

The bolts are SAE with a 9/16" head(14mm will work, just a little tight). The allen set screws will vary, but all mine were SAE also. To remove the bolt that holds the axle in place, the one on the inside end of the axle, I put a wrench on it and then turned the axle. That made it much easier than turning the wrench.

Thank you. I do have a 14 mm on hand. I'll see how it fits before I buy a new 9/16" wrench. Turning the axle does make sense.

As it turns out, we decided to put this Argo away for the winter. It is covered with a few large tarps, to keep the snow out of it. (We did grease all bearings, spray all chains, change out the engine oil, and changed out the trans oil.)
Come spring time we'll continue the work of changing out the bearings, and get it ready for the summer. Thank you all for the help.

ok cool. I would recomend geting a few SAE tools. A set of SAE allen wrenches artnt too bad, and a 1/2 inch, 3/8 9/16 and 5/8 wrench are about impossible to live without. Get a decent set of shallow well six point sockets, a small extension and a wobbile (universal joint) makes live MUCH easier.... i think the allen screws were 1/8 inch or 3/16.... i forget.... so dont quote me
