  • Argo floor, and chain

Just finished my mid 80`s rebuild this past summer but I am stuck on one thing what goes under the plastic floor boards? Will I have to remove all axels and bearings to install it. I am sure this has been answerd before I just cant fine where. One more thing I am running the old gear style chain tensioner my question is do I push the chain up or down to pick up the slack in the chain?

I have an 87 NKB I/C 8x8. What do you mean "what goes under the plastic floor boards"? My tensioners don't have gears, they just use springs. What is the year and or model of your argo?

The floor as it sits now is just the plastic floor boards so no wait can be put on them or I will go through. When I called ODG all I had was the tranny # they told me it was an 83 and the model was Argo but I can only go on what I am told. I am thinking the tranny was swaped for a newer one but who knows.

While going forward, the way the drive chains are arranged they will have slack on the bottom. You should have the tensioner on the underside of the bottom chain. If you cant find the gear type tensioner,I have made Delrin rollers and been just fine. There should be flat metal inserts welded in the frame front and back under the plastic floorboards on later models,I dont think the earlier stuff had them though, just an open frame I believe.

Dont know if it helps, but my old argo had little tabs welded into the frame so you could put a peice of ply wood in there. even if there isnt any triangles in the corner of the frame, you could still put 3/8 ply wood in to help distribute teh load of standing on it. But if you want to know, some didnt come with any support at all, and they were fine.

it was a while ago, but i think that the peice of ply wood had notches for the bearings? There should be little triangles in the inside of the frame at the corners.... for the ply wood to rest on. I pulled my frame out and welded a peice of 14 gauge (SHOULD HAVE USED 12 ga) under it for a floor pan, then bolted the bottom of the tub back to it.
