  • Avenger Transmission to Admiral Conversion

    hi,

I have an avenger 8x8 and want to convert from old gearbox to admiral gearbox.
Has someone experience with this ?

    Thanks Bonnez Dirk.

I would contact your dealer. The two transmissions are different sizes, so I doubt they mount the same way. My guess is that frame modifications would need to be made, plus the cost of buying the trans outright........ I bet you would be better off just trading yours in on a new model, or towards a used one with the admiral already in it.

Just my two cents, but if I were you I would keep the old style transmission and use the money to buy a set of Adair belted tracks. The old style transmissions low gear is excellent and reliable. The new style Admiral is great in high range but if you have to go to low range the counter rotation feature takes a lot of power and in many circumstances works against you. I have been around machines with the new and old style transmissions and it seemed that when both machines are equipped with Adair tracks the old style transmission had the advantage in several different areas, one being much better water control. If you make a decision to buy Adair tracks for that Avenger I doubt that you will ever get stuck again and all the places you considered impassable before will turn into a cake walk. With an 8x8 and 25 inch rawhides you should have a swim speed close to 3 mph. If your machine is in good shape you will not be disappointed and you find a love for that Argo that you never thought possible.
