  • I learned a lesson about my Argo today.

I learned you can get one seriously stuck. And that I should have waited until I had a winch , but wheres the fun in that anyway?

I just got everything fixed on it and couldn't wait to trailer it somewhere to try it out, so I just headed into the marsh behind my house, was going well until I did a 360 in the very soft muck and then it was over, had to put my suv in 4low, lock the diffs and hope I didnt get IT stuck getting to the edge of the marsh after I rounded up every chain, strap, and rope I could find to reach from the back bumper to the argo... and the gnats were swarming me like clouds because its warm today, and my wife is laughing and watching from inside the house. I don't think the Runamucks are the best in this stuff, they totally quit pulling in the soupy mud.

It was still fun for a while anyhow.

I think i'll try it again when I get the winch, with a little more throttle and no 360s this time

No pics of the mud bath I got wading back and forth, but I made it almost to the bayou in the pic.

Better get your wife to check you for ticks!

Sorry to hear that about the runamucks....you gonna start checking out other tires?

probably need to, but to be fair the runamucks are a bit worn, maybe a fresh set would do better, wish I could run the taller tires like the new argos have, a little more ground clearance would certainly have helped

Mike, those Runamucks are actually kind of pricey. You might want to look into the Goodyear Rawhide III. They're very good in the mud, they swim decent, and they're only $40 something bucks. I took one of my Max II's out when I first picked it up and it had worn tires and no winch. It was not too fun being stuck that bad, but I finally got it out at about 10PM......luckily I had lights that worked at least.

thanks, thats sounds like way better price than what ive been seeing. The runamucks look kind of fragile anyway. I was concerned about the rawhides having a stiff ride, is there a big difference?

the rawhides are alittle stiffer but they last alot longer.

I have nothing against Rawhides, but have you consideded trying the 24" Frontier tires? They are much better than the 22" Runamucks, and they are the best swimmers I have tried so far. Contrary to what some dealers will tell you, they WILL fit with about 1/4" clearance between tires.

                        How about the Interco Vampires?

Vampires not made in 8" I think..

there are other options besides the expensive frontier tire, but looking at Tom's picture I'd wager the farm they will outperform any other tire in that situation.

Another concern is he's using the argo wheels(non beadlock). A rawhide III won't stay mounted along with just about every other tire, other than a runamuk or a frontier tire.

So the 24" tires will clear? This is a 93 Vanguard 6x6, I'll check into those if thats the case...

I have a set for my Conquest 8x8, and for my 6x6. I also have a friend that bought a set for his Conquest. Axle spacing is the same for my Argo's, as it is for yours.
I bought them late last yr, and have not had alot of time to test them, but so far they work very well. The friend that bought a set has tried quite a few different tire designs (more than me), and was hooked instantly upon trying my tires, on his machine.

Pic of my buddie's Argo, with MY tires on it. (he snuck over to my place, and stole my new tires just so he could try them on his Argo. Not sure why he didn't just take my Argo and try it out)
