  • 8x8 i/c battery question

    Hey everyone. I recently purchased my first argo. A 1987 8x8 i/c. It didn't come with a battery and I was reading the operators manual and it said the argo uses a 225 cold cranking amp battery. My question is if I install a larger cranking amp battery will that matter. Also, is there a certain brand of oil everyone uses. I need to change all the fluids since it has been sitting for a few years. Thanks in advance.

    Go ahead and install a larger CCA battery if you want, it wont hurt. You will be able to spin your engine over a bit faster when it's cold, but will have less cranking time to play with.
    Personally, I'm not really Brand Loyal. I prefer Synthetics, but will buy from whoever is cheapest when I'm out looking(Within reason, of course).
    Don't forget to drain the fuel tank, and you might want to consider rebuilding the Carb, if it's been sitting that long.

      i just rebuilt my 1987 8x8 I/C. i put a 500cca battery in it. it fit perfectly in the battery tray. i believe it is a type 51. I use the kohler brand (made for air cold motors) oil. The trans i used hpyoC 80/90 gear oil. Is it the M18 kohler motor (red color)?

        Yes it is the red Kohler motor. The machine belonged to my neighbors brother who passed away a couple of years ago. He only put approximately 100 hours on it over the 15 years he owned it. Apparently he bought it used from a dealer so I'm not sure how many previous hours it has on it. Is there anything else I should be aware about with this model? Thanks for the info on the oil and battery.

          i had to rebuild the carb, replaced fuel filter, air filter,new sparkplug, fuel lines, cleanout gas tank, replaced fuel pump(napa $65), changed oil (winter sae10w30, summer sae30). put it up on blocks and check the chains,sprockets,tenisioners,and bearings for wear and or broken/loose. check the ldler chains to see if they need adjusted(tightened). check the brake pads and rotors for wear. flush out the brake fluid (dot 5).
