Well Gentlemen,
I finally got a chance to get out with the Argo hunting last month. Went down to Alberta to see my brothers. Very cold there again for the third year in a row. Mid -20's all week. Lots of Moose and elk around this year, Deer numbers were still a bit down. We ended up getting 2 bull moose, 4 elk, 1 muley buck and 6 White bucks. Of note, my brother got a 190+ net B&C muley. Its a hog.
Anyway, on to more important things, the whole week....Drum roll please....the avenger ran perfect. Not one single issue. After buying it from an oil patch company 5 years ago, I have nearly burnt it a dozen times due to stupid breakdowns. I have had to learn how to fix nearly every part of an unmaintained machine, it seems to have turned the corner and is running flawlessly the past year. That's the good part.
The bad part is that I decided not to bring the tracks this year as I haul them there and back every year (1100 kms one way) and never seem to use them. Well, guess what, they got a dump of snow knee deep in spots that week, and no tracks. We made do the best we could, but it did make it tough to get into some areas.
I brought both moose and three elk out with the argo. Once again, it made great friends that week because we were NOT getting quads in where the elk were (the moose maybe, but not the elk).
I had planned on taking hours of Argo footage this year, but it seemed that when I wanted to take video, the cold had nuked the batteries every time. I did manage to patch together some footage though. Its not the best, but gives you an idea.
One other thing, I had some "guest drivers", guys that wanted to try it out going through the bush with a 1000pd moose in the back. It did give me a chance to film, but, it also gave me anxiety attacks as they pinned it over logs, bush, etc. I am a bit of a slow and easy driver, especially in the cold and "things tend to break then", and i have to fix them. But no damage that I could see so all good.
I hope you guys enjoy it, and as always, I hope the "gore" doesn't offend anyone, that is not the intention.
Derek
