  • Caliper staying locked on.

    Hi all,

Looking for some help with a brake sticking issue. I have a 1984 I/C 8x8 with hydraulic brakes. I have one side that will not release total after steering. This creates a steering problem as it robs power. The brake fan is working properly. My question is would this be the master cylider or the caliper? Is there a rebuild kit for either?

    Thanks and Happy Holidays!

I had the same problem with the same machine once. I can't remember which was sticking (think it was the master). This was on a machine that had been sitting for about 5 years. I flushed out the brake system(s) with denatured alcohol (paint section at any hardware store), blew everything dry with compressed air, and refilled with new fluid. bled the brakes and never had another issue with it. Old fluid, dirty, probably had absorbed a lot of water over the years.....

      Hi Racerone3,

I'll give it a try. Have you ever rebuilt a master? Much too it?

      Thanks

When the brake is stuck loosen the hyd fitting at the master for that side and see if it releases.
If not the calliper is probably sticking.
