  • Bumper install tricks??

I'm installing a new vinyl bumper on my Argo bigfoot but am having trouble getting it on. It seems it is a very tight fit in terms of the overall loop of bumper I have to install.

Any tricks or tips on how to get it installed correctly??

    Thanks!

First make sure that it is warm. Since you are in Canada and it's approaching winter I would set it near a heater for a while so that it's a little pliable. Then, with the seam at the very rear of the machine, put the bumper on the rear. Don't work it on the sides yet though. Go to the front and, preferably with a friend to help, stretch the bumper until it goes on the front. Once you have the bumper on the front and rear, you can work the sides on without too much trouble.

I have tried it a lot of different ways but what has worked best for us to warm it up is I took the zip-able cover off of a large dog bed, then I roll up the bumper and zip it up inside, then I throw it in the cloths dryer on medium heat for about 10-15 minutes...makes it go on super easy

        Hope this helps....best of luck!

          Great tips guys thanks!

I tried it today and had it warmed up inside but argo is outside in -10c weather so needless to say I didn't get far.

Will try the clothes drier suggestions otherwise might have to find someone with a heated garage!!

Thanks again for the helpful suggestions!

Fill up the bath tub with hot water only and let the bumper soak for 5 min. This will give you the most even heat transfer. Just be sure to use gloves when she comes out, it’s going to be hot…..

If you use the clothes dryer make sure to wrap it in a blanket or the dog bed cover so it doesn't scratch it up while it tumbling...we tried the water trick but always seemed hard to hold on to when it was all wet and it tends to make a mess on a new machine...just my experience :-)

              Best of luck

                Success!

Stuck it in the dryer for 10min in a mesh laundry bag then got it on with the help of my son. Took advantage of milder temps we're having here...temperature outside was -10C so we had to work fast but went on relatively easily thanks to the advice I got on this forum.

Yesterday was a big day for working on the BigFoot! ...got the bumper on, our new Rawhide III's , bilge pump control panel, 12v accessory plug, rear hand rails, snowplow brackets, and plastic welded up the enlarged drain holes the previous owner had made!

Really appreciate all the help this forum provides!
