  • Ametric chains

    hi all,

it's time to replace my chains..Local bearing store sell 10 ft of 50-2 chains for 152$ and 60 chain for 89$ (Brand=renold).

is it a good price...it's like 550$ tx in. for all the chains.

I have search the forum, and it's seems pretty obvious to stay away from half links and chinees chains.

It's a lot's of money for me, so i whant to be sure to do the right thing. Search the internet too and no big deal there Some ebay store could send me for 314 without shipping...

Would you trust this kind of chains? Anyone bought from them?

    Thanks

To me that is way too high.. I rechained my conquest 8x8. and it was much cheaper then that for made in US Diamond chain. 2 boxes of 10' 50-2 roller chain for $60 each. 3 boxes of 10' 60-1 roller chain for $50 each. That was including shipping costs. Just watch ebay closely and don't be afraid to make an offer lower then they are asking, they might say yes!

        Vortex,

I rechained my Argo recently and paid about $500 for 2 boxes of 10ft RC50-2 and 2 boxes of RC60. Same brand as you...Renold and from what I was told by several sources Renold is a very good chain (made in germany and the UK).

SOME Renold chain has, yes. They've established manufacturing facilities all over the world as they acquire smaller manufacturers. Germany, India, US....

Ok let's try another approach...Is there anybody that have actually put cheaper chains in there Argo? If so do you have any troubles with it? I can't imagine the chain need to be that strong...The wheels will start to spin whay before the cheaper chain break? No? I must be missing something as usual...Blame it on my ADD.

I just found a new place on ebay it's Vamberk chain...17$ each meters and the shipping cost are very low. Anyone have bought or heard from them?

I also read some comments about Princess auto chains at 40$ for 10 feets box...Anyone have try thoses?

Ah and one last tought...Any type of chain breaker will do or I have to buy a special one?

Hummm!!! Loads of questions and i did not even begin to actually work on the thing...I just can't whait to grease my hands...And try newly learn bad words...

More to chain than strength. Wear characteristics a big one. Cost of known quality offset by longer interval before next replacement. not that cost a guarantee of quality.
Its great your doing research before replacing it.
