  • What model is this outside UK ?

1983 CRAYFORD ARGOCAT 8 WHEELER K17 INDUSTRIAL COMMERCIAL ARGO ATV

That's what it's listed as in the UK, or was, but in the States and Canada you seem to go by names. What would this one have been called ? From what I can gather it was only made for a very short time, all literature shows 1982 as being different and in 1985 it changed again. A two year run seems very short.

And yes, I know it's grotty but it was cheap and close to home. Hopefully a steam cleaner will rectify the paintwork.

Looks to be a later serial numbered KB marketed as a 8 I/C model. looks to have a much needed alternator installed, is that a heat duct for the driver or is that the brake cooling duct on the firewall?

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Wouldn't know yet Jim, got to pick it up this week. Bought it a fortnight ago but haven't been able to fetch it yet! Why does life wait until you really want to do something then go pear shaped ??

Right, just found that I/C means industrial / commercial, apparently. What's that mean? What's the difference between industrial and non industrial (if they made a non industrial)

I know, so many trivial questions. I'll stop asking shortly, trust me.

never stop asking buddy! others can correct me if im wrong.. (pop quiz for me here). I beleive that the I/C models denote a change when argo started courting comercial opperators. This eventualy brought about hydralic breaks, and splined axel shafts (as opposed to pinned).. hope i hit the nail on the head. How did i do fellers????

IN short, I/C models are good... conquests are better... HDi are best and now the Titain is super???? That is what it boils down to.

Right gents, collected this today and was told the reason for it being painted snot green was that it was a sea monster in some childrens UK tv series. It's been done in a vile green emulsion sort of paint with a white belly pan with black lines painted on to look like scales, Apparently it also had a structure on it to look monster like. It does have an outboard bracket on that looks like it was used in filming so it must have been filmed in the water as well. Oh, it's mid eighties so a while back. Just wondered if the program had made it across the puddle.

Need to know what it was in to give it a name

              84 Argo I/C 17, a few questions please?

Finally picked the Argo up today, at last it's stashed away on my premises. It appears to run well, goes forwards and backwards, turns well (a little firm on the brakes though but it was on dry tarmac). A few little queries though.

The front tyres ( all Runamuck 20 / 11 / 8 ) look to be smaller than the other six ? What pressure should these be run at ?

The rear floor pan has distorted over time, is it realistic to straighten it with a good hot air gun?

It runs great but when starting from cold ( just above freezing) it's choke out until it fires then all the way in and away it goes. This would give the impression of being a little rich (I haven't checked plugs yet), is this normal?

There's a blower under the bonnet (hood?) that's been disconnected from a moulded plastic tube running down the bulkhead (firewall?) Is this the brake blower, if not what is it?

What's the lightest gauge of tube PROVEN to be good enough for a cage (rops?) Do you reckon 30 / 32mm x 2mm wall would be OK( I shall probably put a double diagonal in the hoop behind front seats) ? I don't want to go too heavy but then again if it doesn't work there's no point in having it.

              Thanks guys.

1: I would get all matching tires. If 2 are smaller than the others this will put undue stress on driving components.

2: plastic has a memory, so when you heat it put something on it to hold it down in the postition you are wanting it to be. Then let it cool. You may need to do this a couple of times.

3: Not sure, but mine runs the same way.

4: Yes that's the brake cooler. On mine there is a blue wire that has a connector on it. If yours is like that just plug it back in. People do that to save on battery. I put my machine on a trickle charger when I'm done for the day & haven't had a problem yet.

Thanks for the info, good of you. The tyres are supposed to be the same according to the details on the tyre, just can't understand why two would look smaller. I shall put a tape around them as it may be an optical illusion.

The blower will be connected back up, like you I can charge when required.

If your machine runs the same and is OK then mine's best left alone, if it ain't broke don't fix it has to be good.

Do you know what the tyre pressures are supposed to be?? There's various pressures stated on the web and it's hard to know which to go by.

                    Cheers

Could be from all the weight in the front of an Argo,it will squat the front tires and not the rears.I run 2.5-3 psi in the front and 1.5-2 psi in the rears.I have 25"Rawhide III's on an Argo Bigfoot, but it is the same for a 8x8 use a little more pressure in the fronts..

The brake fan should be hooked up to run when the ignition is on.
