  • question on newer models

I have a 1989 8 wheel magnum with double chains. I have heard that the new models use single chains . Can anyone confirm this and if anyone knows if it is possible to swap from the double chains to the singles. I'm thinking singles would be a lot easier to work with than doubles. Thanks

The Avengers use single #60 on the rear two (3rd and 4th) axles and from the transmission to the intermediate shafts but they still use double 50 from the intermediate shaft to the front and second axle

Alright I'll just stick with what is already on here. It still has the original chains and sprockets from 1989. Replacing everything so I was looking to maybe do some updating but better off leaving it as it is.

I was just informed by other members that the double 50 is 2 times stronger than the single 60 (working strength) but the single 60 is supposed to take more sprocket misalignment due to body flex.

Interesting. I didn't know that is why they went to single sixty. I assumed it was just cost saving.

It is unsure that it is the reason for the change but was noticed by experienced riders that the single strand 60 makes less noise in high body twist situations. I personally like the cost savings.

single 60is lighter than double 50 by quite a lot. ANSI ratings for 50-2 is 13200# 60-1 is 8500#. Single sprockets require a lot lesss machine work that=$$$
