  • Pins per foot of chain

How can one determine the amount of pins per foot of a given chain, say for example, 50-1?

I am asking this because my parts manual only gives the pin count. I want to know how many feet of chain I should buy for my Avenger. I can buy them in ten-foot lengths and fifty-foot lengths.

    Thank you.

The manual should list it as piece or plates not pins, you would count the outer plates and break the chain at the number needed by 2's. the unconnected link would be 1 and connector plate would be 2 then 4,6,8 etc. the master link will make the count work. You should need 2 boxes of 50x2 and 2 boxes of 60 each 10 feet.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

2 boxes of 50x2, ten foot lengths
2 boxes of 60, ten foot lengths

Cut them to the proper lengths, using master links as needed, right?
      Thank you very much.

the length in inches (then convert to feet) can be calculated if you know the size of the chain. #50 is 5/8 inch pin to pin, #60 is 6/8 (3/4) inch pin to pin.

So you know that there is not always an integer number of pins per foot (12 inches / .625 = 19.2 pins per foot for #50)(12 /.75 = 16 pins per foot for #60)

If you buy in 10 foot lenths you may need to splice shorter (left over) pieces with an extra master link.

Thank you. I'll be sure to buy extra links.
