  • electric fuel pump flow rate and psi ????

ok, i have had it with this Micky-mouse vacuum pump on my big foot.

my question is what size electric pump would work on a 18 hp vanguard???

has any one done this conversion ??

Try one of these, 151017424616 (ebay uk) and a low pressure electric pump. Only problem is the pump will keep running with the engine off if you roll it.

I wouldn't know the answer to either of those two questions

I remember talking to my local Argo dealer the other day.. A guy brought in an Avenger and they hooked a 12psi pump to it and it caused all kids of problems. I think he said these machines require a extremely low psi.. 1.5psi to 3.0psi if I remember correctly. My Conquest has an inline pump standard from the factory.

          A conquest fuel pump is:

I just put a low psi pump on my 16hp and it works great. I wrote about it somewhere on the site. I got it from napa for around 80.00, just ran it off a keyed source and plumbed it in. works awsome. Oh ya, I lest the original pulse in place just incase of a dead battery.

You can buy a inline low psi fuel pump from napa or O'Rielys just tell them you need one for carburation. If you are having trouble with a metal body mukuni pump and don't want to rebuild it find a lawnmower shop and tell them you need the vacuum pump for a briggs v twin riding mower engine. They are black plastic work great and only cost about 25$.

Dan is right, our engines require a very low psi producing fuel pump, and one could be had at your local auto store (napa, autozone, advanced, O'reilleys, etc) like this one http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...0515&ppt=C0025 . I had this same pump as a stand-alone pump in my Hustler feeding a 16hp vanguard, and it did it with absolutely no problem. Not to lean, not to rich, fuel was there exactly when i needed it. Just make sure that you wire it to the ignition switch so it will turn on and off with the ignition.

Is this fuel pump to big to use on a 16 teucsmeh?? 3-5psi with flow rate of approx 30 gph. I intend to leave the pulse pump on as well....

                    Hey 'Guy,

I doubt that'll be too big for your Tecumseh. I run one of these (or a variant of the same thing) on my Kubota gas engines (regular Keihin float-style carburetors) with no issues. The pressure has never overcome the needle/seat on any of the carbs. ELECTRIC FUEL PUMP UNIVERSAL 12V- 2 to 3 Psi, 29GPH, with FITTINGS & FILTER | eBay

The fuel pump won't have an affect on the engine running rich or lean if that's a concern. That's only regulated by the carburetor itself, not how much fuel it's getting. If you start running "rich" and it's fuel pump related, it means you're pressing fuel past your needle/seat and overflowing the fuel bowl. "Lean", simply means you're running out of fuel and your fuel pump can't keep up. At 30gph, your Tecumseh won't burn gas faster than the pump can push it. I'd try to stay on the low side with pressure as much as possible. Like I said before, you probably won't overcome the needle/seat but it's always best to be on the safe side.

Thanks HM. I did not think it would be a problem but looking for a second opinon. Got that one on Ebay from the good old US of A cheaper then I could buy one local here in Newfoundland.
