Well, this morning, I had anot so Mensa moment...
I went out for a ride out back. So far, no biggy, I know.
It was minus 16 C, the snow was crisp. The mild weather and rain of last week left a good solid base. I thought I would go check up on the critters.
Then, I thought, hey, lets go bushwacking!
So, like I've done tons of times before, I head straight into the bush. When I come up on a branch in the way, I slow right down and push into it with the windshield. Always worked so far...
Well, today was the day, that would not work as planned.
I started moving forward and heard a big "crack!"
What the F...? I thought: What a loud noise for a breaking branch. I realized it wasn't the branch when I ended up with shattered glass all over the place; found some in my shorts...
I gathered as much as I could and threw it in the tub. I'd clean it up when I get home. It was a bit nipply riding without the windshield, but, beats walking.
I wondered what could have happened? Cold glass, fatigue in glass, flaw???
Then, while I was cleaning out my mess, I thought of it. The windshield twisted. One side pushed in more than the other, or off center. Well, remember this if nothing else: Glass don't bend...
I will replace with plexiglass. It's 3/16" thick and that's what we use for small airplanes. Should do a good job.
Wish I had it on film; that wouldhave been a winner on AFV...
Happy Easter!
