After the past few rides my conquest front axle bearings have a good bit of play in them. And as hard as me and my daughter drive it, I figured it might be a good investment to upgrade to HDI on the front axles. Got my kit in mail today. I hope to get them installed during shutdown week at my job. I'm thinking about doing a short how to video to go with it. As bearings wear out I will just HDI kit them til they are all done.

Those stamped steel housed 1.25 bearings are good for about 1500 lbs dynamic load at 4000 rpm if you can just go with cast iron 4 bolt flange bearings you get 4400 lbs at 6300 rpm and this is the light duty brg. Paint the housing and just replace the insert when it wears out no more buying the flanges when they rust out. You can grease them with marine water proof grease.

What year is your conquest? I just picked up a 1999. A how to video would be great. It is my understanding that there are 2 types of bearing extensions on the conquest depending on the year. Similar in appearance but the older style does not need an inner flange for the regular bearing which will not allow a HD bearing retainer and the newer style needs an inner flange for the regular bearing but allows the inner HD bearing retainer to fit just right. Is there a way to modify the older style to accept the HD bearing retainer? Looking forward to seeing the video.

Supermag, was not aware of that, our (late 93) 94 model has the inner flange and never looked (or knew to) to see a difference. I would ass/u/me it would just be a small amount of clearancing the inner profile of the bearing housing to accept the straight insert.sigpic
My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.
Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Supermag,
I believe it is pretty easy. I have heard that Adair Argo has developed a kit specifically for upgrading to HD bearings without machining anything no matter which style extension you have. Give them a call and let us know how it goes. This may be the kit that Dan67 just received. Hope so, as I haven't seen it yet and a video would be awesome.
ARGOJIM,
Supermag is right. My conquest is a '98 and when RockDoctor posted his howto videos for the HD bearing upgrade I checked mine to find that I would need to machine the extensions to perform the upgrade as RockDoctor did his.
