  • Bent Axle on Argo

I have a 1987 8x8 I/C that has one axle that is slightly bent. The axle is splined. Can I run this for awhile or does it need to be replaced. It is the second wheel on the right side so I'm not sure what damage it can cause me. I don't put many hours on it, maybe 20-30 all year. Any feedback will help. I know most serious riders will replace it but I just want some opinions. Thanks in advance.

Call ur local argo dealer and see if he has any good used axles in stock from doing HDI upgrades.

So are you saying this axle does have to be changed right away? Also I notice a couple of my sprockets move on the axle. Is this normal. I just picked this up from somebody and I don't think they did a lot of maintenance on it.

It depends on how bent the axle is and where it is bent. If it's just a little movement up and down from a bend on the outside of the body then it's not a huge deal. If it is a noticeable amount that you can feel when driving the machine, you run the risk of eventually wearing out your bearing and causing more issues down the road. If it is really bad then you run the risk of a tire rubbing the tub, etc. You can take the axle out and straighten it with a press. I've done a couple of mine that way.

To answer your sprocket question, on an Argo there are some sprockets that do not have set screws in them so they will slide freely on the axle. I'm not sure on your model but I believe it was the front axles. Do a search on the site and you will find the answer.
