  • 2001 8x8 argo response clutch belt problem

When I have the engine at idle, the belt still spins. The clutch is still open and is not squeezing the belt, but some how it is able to still spin the belt. Should the clutch off the transmission spin real easy or should it have some resistance to it? The belt seems fairly loose on the clutch (it has the right belt for it). Any ideas on what I can try let me know. Thanks in advance.

It's not abnormal for the belt to spin on the clutches at idle. The engine CVT is, of course, spinning and with a loose belt, it will spin it too. Are you having other problems or is the belt spinning on the clutches at idle just bugging you?

The problem is when I try to shift I can hear the gears grinding and at idle in gear the argo moves forward slowly.

Try to turn the idle down slightly, as Mike wrote it is not abnormal for it to spin. You should be able to slow it down enough not to grind and once in gear it should not spin.

        Joe Camel never does that.

I'm having the same exact problem with my 2000 Bigfoot. I can actually stop the clutch/belt with my hand with the engine at an idle(it's idled pretty low already) and the transmission will shift smoothly. Please let me know if you come up with a solution.
