  • Hand brake

I recently purchased a argo conquest and almost went over frontwards on it. Question is think it is possible to put a single hand brake on the left stick to engage both brakes Instead of pulling back both sticks and fighting gravity trying to push ya forward.

Would be nice. May be a little confusing tho. I was going down a hill the other day and it took everything I had to keep myself planted back in the seat & pull back on the sticks. Just not sure if it is possible. You would loose your steering once engaged.

      Madman,

Your Argo is quite nose heavy. When the need to go downhill arises one must "situate" (brace yourself with your feet and knees) themself first. Your Argo MUST be DRIVEN downhill. In other words, the engine rpm must be kept high enough to keep the drive clutch engaged. Seems odd but by doing this one can achieve a very controlled descent. By doing this you will see that very little input from the sticks is required to regulate the speed of the descent. This leaves steering as the only thing the sticks need to do. If the Argo is left to "free wheel" downhill I can almost assure you a very "interesting" journey to say the least. Hope this makes sense and helps.

      Joe.

That does make sense joe it is just hard to train your self to do so lol, all I could do is sit there with the winch planted into the dirt and think this is going to hurt but the back end sat back down thank goodness. I will definetly be adding a ROPS system to it.

JoeMeg has the answers, I generally turn my body slightly bracing my right knee against the dash and using light throttle the engine braking will keep you at a fairly steady pace, if needed feather the brakes to slow you down (but keep throttle engaged). If it is a very steep hill placing the machine in low range and using the throttle will crawl down the hill, sometimes too slow.
Another option would be to convert over to the handle bar steering of the newer Conquests, the dual braking is achieved mechanically applying both at the same time, a machine with sticks would take some engineering to make the hyd. work together and alone unless another set of calipers were fitted.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
          Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.
