Argo Avenger 8X8 top speed modification?

Hello, I am new to this forum. I been lurking and I practically saw most of the YouTube videos about 6X6 and 8X8 ATVs. I am thinking of getting an Argo 8X8 Avenger. Because of its bigger cargo section and towing capabilities. I will use it to do fishing and hunting exploration trips in our north country (Canada). Where I live, there are a mix of swampy areas and in between, long streches of smooth sandy trails, where you can go at least at 40 mph with a quad.

I was wondering if there are some modifications that can be done, so the Argo avenger top speed will be more than 20 mph? I do not know, something like 30 mph will already be an improvement. It will allow us to cover more ground on those smooth sandy trails.

Pulley ratio

I think the new Avengers do 25mph and with that 31hp motor it could do allot more .Unfortunately you may be fighting that EFI system but a taller drive pulley/ cvt and or a shorter driven pulley could do the trick.

Basically anywhere that there is a sprocket is a potential for increasing the speed. I don't know what the maximum tire size is for an agro, but getting anything bigger than what you've got now will increase your top end speed as well. Just remember that any fixed change to increase the speed will proportionally reduce your torque (the exception being a larger ratio CVT).

The good thing is an 8x8 is a bit more stable then a 6x6 so you will not swerve into poles as easily. The larger engine in the Avengers have ample toque but I honestly think that a larger CVT pulley with a new belt is more cost effective then 8 larger new tires

There is a optional gearbox for the avenger 8x8. Talked about it when i bought mine. My unit is not EFI, top speed about 22mph checked by running beside of a 4 wheeler with speedometer. (How true it is i dont know) But as other have told you a spoket change will help. But check into the gearbox option also. Getting a higher speed out of these could have a bad end result when hitting depressions, you understand the issues. I have had mine at the North Caroline outer banks and that is a pretty strainght strech. I prefer the slower speed to look at scenery. My wife brought back about 35 lbs. of seashell. Uh..................

The Avenger is a great machine you will enjoy it, for fishing it is very stable in water. I posted a picture of mine with a 9.9 4-stroke Mariner. The 7hp will be lighter and still produce around the same results. Keeping in mind it will never be a speed boat. They are better!!!!!!

I have the efi, I have hd mine at a top speed of 19 mph with tracks. that is measured with a gps and repeated several times. I am hoping it goes a little faster without the tracks.

It is another name for the Driven pulley on the engine but the pulley spines together creating a higher gear (or pulley) ratio as the RPM goes up and a lower ratio as the RPM goes down.
This is in place of having to shift up and down like a manual transmission only better because it is infinitely variable between gears and does it automatically. A driven pulley could just be a fixed single diameter pulley but a CVT is variable.

I think that once you get in these machines that you will understand that they are not about speed, but capability, And it's capability they have a lot of. When I first got my max I drove it fast all the time! After awhile I learned that it's not about speed but what you can do and where you can go that other machines can not do!Enjoy what they can do! Let the other machines pass you on the fast parts of trail and then smoke them when the going gets rough. 25 mph is plenty fast for an 8x8. Enjoy!

20 to 25 is pretty fast without any suspension to soak up the bumps,,all you have is the tires flexing,,and to much faster ,,start bouncing, and well,, bad things possibly could happen,,,,.

I was kinda surprised just how fast it felt in the Argo BigFoot,,at 20 or whatever speed we were doing,,,Heck of alot faster then walking,,lol.

You guys don't know what slow is. It's an argo 8 with the lowest of three trans ratios and 22" runamuks But after working it over, I think I could get a speeding ticket in a school zone now.
