Did a quick over overnighter in the Conquest looking for grouse. Took my pointing lab, "Maggie" and my shadow "Peanut".
The weather has been wet and wild hear in the Rockies lately and I was lucky to get a clear window to get in and get set up.P9120004.jpg
We then went on a good little trek before dusk and Maggie found this nice Blue or Dusky grouse.P9120007.jpg
When we got back to camp I could see some ominous looking clouds building and I knew we were going to get wet that night. I rigged a trap over the back of the Conquest and the door of our tent. I built a platform for the dogs in the back cargo area out of plywood and covered it with marine carpet. I used this for my covered kitchen area in the back of the Conquest and set up my stove etc. I could get out of the tent and fix meals, coffee, etc.. w/o getting wet and that night it rained buckets.P9130014.jpg
The next morning it was still raining on/off and the clouds were low in the big moutain canyons. It reminded me of Alaska or B.C. I broke camp after breakfast and we headed out in the Conquest to the ridge tops. The roads were thick with mud and water and the Vampires did not disappoint. After a brief period of shotty shooting I bagged a couple more (one Blue and one Ruffed).P9130016.jpgP9130017.jpg
A great trip, but now I have to go spray the 200 lbs of mud off my machine. This is only the second time this machine has been in the dirt/mud as it is primarily my backcountry snow transporter.
