  • Front Chain adjustment.

Just purchased a 2001 Bigfoot and am in the process of changing bearings & chains. I adjusted the idler chains without problem but the front chains seem to have a lot of slack & no way to tighten. Does this mean they are just stretched & need replacement or am I missing something?
In another topic, the inside of the tub is filthy. Could I use Simple Green or some like chemical to clean or should I avoid?
Thanks in advance for any help.

If the front are loose then they need replacing. I would use simple green. I did use spray cans of engine degreaser and a trip to the local pressure washer.

I agree with JohnF, there is no adjusting the front chains on this line, time to replace them. Quality chain goes a long way and the front chains are not that bad to replace once you've done it a time or two. The first time is usually interesting though, I got one side changed out on my Frontier within 20 minutes, the other side took more like two hours. Since there is no adjuster on the front, its awkward and the 3rd hand of an assistant will make it much easier. I use bailing wire to get the links close then you can connect then without much fuss.
The cleaners above are great but I prefer STP SUPERCLEAN, which Walmart and others sell. Its dark purple and even diluted its a great cleaner to remove all the gunk that collects.
