  • Conquest Heater Motor Exchange ?

Broke down and bought the heater kit for my Conquest - Couldn't afford the alternator (yet). Looking at the motor on the rad core - it looks like its from the 50's. Has anyone tried replacing it with something a bit more efficient (thus less current) like a brushless with electronic speed control or even a 12v computer fan ??

    Thanks
    Todd.

[QUOTE=tshea; Looking at the motor on the rad core - it looks like its from the 50's.

Yes, well, probably older than that, but still used today and universally available @ any auto parts store. They do suck up the amps though and that is why an alt kit is needed.
I do not know if there are any options that draw less amps. You do need cfm to blow through the heater core to get the desired result, heat, right? Be carefull running the heater, headlights and brake fan at the same time as this will leave you with a dead battery. // RR

Yes - got it in last week - everything went well except the plumbing for the rad hose - very tight - In hindsight I probably wouldn't cut any of the existing rad hose out (they suggest 1.5" if I recall correctly)
Anyway - it works great - draws about 5 amps on full power - so at night with the lights, brake fan and heater on - the load is close to equal to what the engines output (without the alternator kit)
If you had to run the winch it would be a problem. I take a booster pack with me just in case - will do the alternator kit next year when I can afford it.

at -10 Celsius it was warm enough inside to take off hat, mitts, etc.

The defroster vent doesn't seem to be putting out much hot air in comparison to the main vent but seems to be ok.

Next investment will be the windshield wiper - tough to see outside when the windshield is covered in snow.
