  • Argo Oil-Change Ease - Tips and Tricks

Hi guys, When i had bought my Argo avenger last year, the guy who I had bought it from had a genius idea.

What he did was he took out the oil drain plug, and replaced it with a 90 degree pipe elbow, pointed towards the cab, then a two or three inch long valve with a small swing arm on it.

An oil change for me is as easy as throwing a drip tray under it from inside the cab, and swinging that valve to drain the oil. Try it out, its well worth the 5-10 dollar investment. No more feeling around for that damned drain plug!

That looks like a pretty slick (pun intended) ideal....

I use a 12volt oil pump from J.C. Whitney, it was $12 when I bought it about 10-12 years ago. It has long plastic tubes, one goes into the dip stick tube to the sump, then you turn it on and it transfers the fluid via the second tube to a waste oil container. It gets all but a few drops out of the sump, so I still have to remove the drain plug to get the final 4 ounces or so. It makes for a clean oil change however.

Whomever installed the 20HP in my Max did the same idea... except there's a hose barb on the valve... and a short length of hose coiled up. I haven't changed the oil yet, (Bought the machine only a couple months ago) but the idea is to run the hose out thru the hull's left side drain hole. So, when I change the oil, it can drain into a pan set outside the Max instead of dealing with a pan inside of it. Yours looks like it could be done the same way by just adding a hose barb.

Air operated Oil Extractor. I use it for my welder as well, I hooked a hose from the drain hole to a ball valve with a plug and mount that in a easy to access spot, on my welder I used a bulkhead fitting and the drain cap is on the outside of the frame. Hook the hose from the extractor, open the oil filler cap, turn on the air and open the ball valve. 2/3 minutes later the oils in the extractor. Close the ball valve and turn off the air, unhook the hose from the extractor with a rag under to catch the 3-4 drops of oil that comes out, put the plug back on the valve (safety just I case the valve gets bumped) and your done. I also have a plastic container (Rubbermaid or similar, about 5" square) to slide under the filter and after spinning it loose I stick the extractor hose in it and suck it out too before removing it from the engine compartment. Very little to no spillage.
