  • conquest, avenger or hdi?

Hello argo owners, I'm considering a new purchase and going to an 8x8. I have a MaxIV and really enjoy it, but I need to haul more of a load. I'll keep my Max for play and am thinking about an argo for work. Just looking for suggestions, seems like there are lots of choices on the used market for an 8x8. I know all the tell tale signs to look for like abuse or poor service. My situation is remote location so most work is done by myself or friends and need to order all parts. Would like to put tracks on it as most use is in muskeg, for trails I'd use the max. So looking for post 2000 machines in the conquest, avenger or hdi variety in the 5-10K range. My Max has a 23hp Kohler in it and really like the power so what should I look for in engine performance?

If you don't mind spending towards the top end of your budget and you are patient, $10,000 can buy you a well equipped Avenger with less than 100 hours and tracks. To me, that would be the best bang for your buck while still giving you the reliability that you need remotely. Depending on where you are located, you could probably save some money with a Conquest but you would lose a little ground clearance. It really depends on which end of your budget you are leaning towards. To get tracks and an HDI, I'm not sure you can swing that as easily within that budget.

Thinking Tracks would be on top of that. I've seen a couple HDI's near the top end of my budget.

At the 5K mark it would be a really low hour sweet Conquest,or a beat up first year Avenger, the Conquest is a great machine and tracked up the ground clearance not so much of a issue(see Rock Docs vids)both machines will haul the loads that's for sure, the Avenger is a nice unit but as Mike said it would be at the top end of your budget to get a clean copy.NCT

Have you considered new? I hear of guys getting a new HDI for around $100 biweekly. It depends on what your local dealer offers and who they use for a financier. It means a payment every 2 weeks but it's Something to consider.
