  • Unknown argo year ??? And model with recommendations

    Hey you all,
I just bought this Argo and don't know what year this thing is, can any none assist me. And any recommendations to upgrade and move on, I heard something about wood tracks I heard a Argo without tracks isn't a Argo. Thanks you all.

I don't know where you were getting info before you came here, but you may want to start forgetting it. Sorry, but not all Argo's are created equal.
I'm not an Argo expert, but that looks like an early 70's model to me. The early models were just not as tough as they are making them now.....smaller weaker axles etc.
I definitely would avoid putting tracks on it, and I suppose you could make tracks from wood, but I'm not sure why you would want to. Tracks in general will allow ALL machines to go where tires only will not, but there are drawbacks too. Tracks are harder on the machine (axles, bearings, chains, etc.) and most tend to rob horsepower.

Is your new machine made of fiberglass or is it plastic (HDPE) ?

Just a quick look and the crack under the seat tells me it's pre 75 abs hrd body, could be wrong. If sprockets are welded to the 1 inch or 7/8 axles is pre 75, if the sprockets are pinned and the body is textured polyethylene is post 75.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
      Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

        Jim, buggy man,
Thank you all so much it was a joke as far as tracks and a argo lol. So the axles are about the only way to tell the year? Working on getting her going first and repair the body, still good machine right?
        Thanks Tom
