  • Argo HDI

First time I got to try out the new HDI Admiral Trans, had a chance to put one out in conditions I use mine the most, tracked up with rubber, deep snow ish in excess of 40 inches anyway in the bush on the flat and totally off trail,I got to tell ya it works well I was surprised how much easier it handled and the low end grunt over my Avenger that has the same engine in it.It makes me scratch my head I was very happy with my Avenger its been a great machine but that new trans is a peach and less chains a leap forward for sure for Argo, another 10 HP would make this machine a monster, bonus is the wife likes it too, think I may do some snoopin around at the local dealer.NCT

Does it have the low gear trans? Still trying to decide which one I want. Called Adair and they recommend them with tracks.

Good question never thought to ask, guess I was a little excited to get it for a good test run,I would of course go with Adair,s recommendation on this as I would for sure get the lower geared trans because of track use, myself as far as top speed goes its not a concern, one thing for sure it played with those tracks and we all are aware of how much power it takes for them big rubber boots,I would think the Adair track system is wayyy easier to turn.I have owned quite a number of Argos and this HDI Admiral combo is unreal and on the wish list in the next year. Not dissin anyone else,s ride but when I can see my way clear there will be a new one in my camp, and I thought that the Avenger I got would likely be my last new buy as Geezerism would set in by the time its was trash, never say never, long and the short of it I would trust Adair on putting you together the proper machine for what you do and you will be super happy with its performance and strength it made me a believer in one test ride, good luck on your purchase lucky man.NCTNCT

another thought is get the taller gear ratio for faster speeds on tires. Then run a gear-reduction track with track-tuners for track use. Kind of the best of both worlds. Adair makes a "classic" style track that is an elevated-belt track.
NCT- I can really relate to thinking your current machine is all you'll ever need......until something even better comes out. Sometimes being patient pays off. Why can't I just be patient...why...why?

I have the 2011 HDI and it has the i guess the taller gear ratio, i heard later around 12 or 13 they were planning to produce a low gear tranny as a option. Even with Argo tracks on my machine on dry asphalt it had no trouble turning but i still like the idea of a lower gear for the snow and load hauling. The only thing i have ran into that has been a bit of a bugger is when in really slick mud the steering become Super Easy and caution must be used not to over steer and bump into things. I only use the low gear in the machine in very close quarters in the woods as it is a bit longer than the six wheel machines and this really helps made the close turns. Really enjoy the machine and have had a great time with it.

            My opinion

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

Hey Spookum thanks buddy been a rough go with the move to the north way to many things to do,Lewis know exactly what ya are sayin about the steering, thing was when I first took a peak at the HDI I wondered that without the large brake rotors and the gear down effect of the chain drive to the shortshafts I thought the braking strength would be compromised it was totally opposite made my Avenger seem sluggish on turns, saving my penny,s and will buy one soon.NCT
