  • Spare key

So I have a 1970's Argo and my ignition key is about shot. Can I just take the key to any key shop and have a spare made or do I have to order a factory one? The key is a little bent so hopefully any old key shop can make me one.
    Thanks

Try your local key shop, if they have a blank with the same shank you should be ok. If you can't find one I may have one, will need the number off the key ie. 1,2,10.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Thanks everyone, I will try a local key shop as I suspected, otherwise its off to lowes\menards\home depot or whatever to see if they can help.
        Thanks

If you have an extra you could spare that would be great, otherwise I have to take the ignition to the keyshop and have them custom make me a key.
The key is a number 1.

Go to Napa, John Deere or some other auto or implement dealer and pick up a universal ignition. Probably cheaper in the long run.

1970 Argo. The JD key might not be right if you have a 2 stroke

After the local key smith in town sent me home twice with about 10 different keys to try, I finally just took the ignition out and brought it in to them. They ended up giving me two blanks with no cuts which actually pushed in the ignition and allowed me to start the machine. They said they could have filed down a key for me but the keys made back then (1979) were much thinner than keys made today, so he said the key would be very weak if they filed it down. But now I have two spares and am good to go.
Thanks everyone for your tips and info.
