I'm working on a 2010 HDI that was left outside, uncovered for it's entire life, and would like to buff out the unit, anything special,or special compound needed? The unit is black. Thanks.

I clean my machines with Westleys BleechWhite and a soft stiff brush ( I'm using a 30$ horse brush) a course brush will counter the polishing effort. If it's really faded use a Heat gun, no chemicals, work slow to not distort the body.sigpic
My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.
Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Thanks for the help, the heat gun seems to to the trick. I'm also a big fan of using armorall for the final wipedown,it really puts a nice finish on them.
But first there are a lot of internal issues that I am going to start today, including taking off and rebuilding both clutches, repacing lots of chain, brake pads, emergency brake, reapolstering all the seats and backrest, just to name a few. It's a crying shame to see a 2010 HDI in this kind of shape, with only 89 hours on it.

I don't like Armorall because if the machine sits in the sun the chemicals in it will cloud up the finish which is why it says on the label not to apply in the sun. The BleechWhite actually cleans the machine and leaves a shine on it.sigpic

Really got into the 2010 HDI today, has way, way more hours than the gauge says. New clutches, chain,a few chain tentioners, and all the guides, couple out bearings, new apolstery for the seats and backrest, the list goes on....and on....Will post a couple pics.

Made a little progress on the HDI yesterday while waiting for parts, oil change, tranny lube change, restained the floor pans black, painted the rops, tire rims, general cleanup.
Picked up bleach white, did a great job of cleaning the unit up,(thanks jim) but I am still going to use armor all as the last final wipedown, armor all still seems to have more shine to it.
Getting a pile of parts today, going hog wild on this thing on Monday.
Almost forgot, this unit is a prime canadate for track tuners, so they are going on also.Last edited by foxvalley; 02-14-2014, 09:57 AM.
