  • Mudflaps for the front

We just got dumped on again yesterday with about 6 inches of fresh powder, and while cruising down my trails in the powder,at a good rate of speed, I have been getting hit by the snowcloud created by the front of the tracks, especially when the wind is blowing.
So i'm going to take a set of wide mudflaps and modify them, cut them down so they are a little shorter, and see if I can't elliminate a little of the "powder in your face" issue. Also noticed that the powder is also comming across the front of the hood, not much I can do with that...... no i'm not putting flaps there!
Made a video last week, but not very impressive, not enough snow, but I think we have enough now to make it interesting.

What about a windshield? They will take care of that and more. If you don't want it up, they fold down in about 30 seconds.

Windshield without cabin makes vacuum effect and it pulls even more snow inside.

The mudflaps should work fine on the front, we used to put them on the front of conquests to keep the mud from tracks out of driver compartment. You may need to trim mounting points as front corners has changed some. I would leave full length for your trial and you could shorten if needed, always harder to put it back.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
        Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

It will be interesting just to mess around, and see how much the flaps on the front make a difference. They are cheap enough, and can come off real fast. Argojim, glad you said something about keeping them long, just about brought them to the bandsaw, and I think that is wise advice.

Good point, I forgot about that. I have never had an Argo with just a windshield.

If your going fast the snow will work around the windshield, and most times it's not an issue, but I'm just trying to stay away from something I know I won't use much.I like the lightweight aluminum or all fiberglass tops that have the windshield and side windows integrated into the top itself, so you can unbolt and take everything off quickly. I heard the fiberglass tops are really pricey, and the only place I found that has them is in AK. If anyone has more info on these, please let me know.

Here is my aluminum top and I absolutely lovit it. The winshild folds down in 30 seconds and you can completely take the soft sides out or open each of the side curtains individually as needed. They are made by someone in Colorado for the Argo dealer there. They aren't cheap, but mine came with the machine.

That looks way cool thorn! I like how the sides roll up. Looks like you can put stuff on top, also like the lights.

Thanks. Those lights really cut through a blizzard at night. The top does have a rail around it so you can strap gear down on it. It is going to come in handy when I take my family into a yurt in a couple of weeks to stay a few of nights. I can strap our bulky sleeping bags and snowshoes up there to free up interior space. I asked the dealer what these cost and I believe he said around $3k.

Sounds like a lot of fun, cruising argo style to camp in a yurt. Hope you take lots of pics. Is a yurt a turkish dwelling?

I Put one of the mud flaps on,argo jim was right..... again...... the front of the unit is more v shaped, and I had to modify the flaps slightly to fit.The best way to see how much difference they make is to go for a ride now before the other flap is on,good excuse for a little video action/fun anyway. At the very least, the coolness factor went up a notch or two, looks like it really belongs there.

Yurts were used by Mongolian nomads. They are round tent type structures.
