  • Argo front end screens question

I need to replace my screens on the front end of my 98 Conquest. Can I drill out the rivets and remove the old screen, then replace the new screen from the top (outside)? I don't want to have to remove the muffler to install one. Any suggestions?

The screen is there to keep leaves and stuf out of the engine compartment. You can drill out rivets and replace the screen. And it won't hurt to put it on the outside. However, you may get snagged on it when checking oil ect. You could use the old one as a template and slide it over the exhuast tip so it wil be as it looks now. The. Just use your holes to pop some new rivits in it. I don't see we're there is a need to pull the muffler.

If you want the screen on the inside it's a bit harder to fit into the opening but you hook it with a small cotter key extractor. By pullin it tight against the inside of the body it can be rivited.

Maybe I didn't make myself clear. I want to install the new screens on the inside. Is the screen easy to slip into the opening from outside without removing the muffler? Really on both sides.

I wouldn't say easy. But it can be done.

Has anyone installed them from the outside? Without removing any internal parts?

I replaced mine from the inside and it really wasn't a problem dismantling the muffler and shield.

I think if you try and do it from the outside with the muffler in place you'll end up bending the screen and lining up the rivet holes will be tricky....
