  • Is there an easy way to remove the fire wall in an Argo?

Is there an easer way to remove the Fire wall panel in an Argo? Or is just a pain no matter what?

I was thinking of adjusting my brakes .One side I can access it with out taking the fire wall off the other side I am not so lucky. I remember this being a pain when I changed the transmission oil and was tempted to drill a hole in the fire wall were the drain plug is and put a vinyl cap over it . Do you need to remove the top? or brake levers?

Well they can fidgity and I guess you have a pre-Avenger/Frontier model. The newer argo's are a lot easier as ODG figured that the old one was a pain due to the way it sits in, so they made it sit out. As you getting the older style out, you just gotta pull up from the bottom. The top edge sits in a rail behind the dash cover. Check to see if it is that way. Sometimes when putting it in you might miss that rail and have it go in behind the dash and that will make it very hard to get out. Patience sometimes is what is needed. I have fought it, walked away for 5 minutes and come back to have it slide out.
    Good Luck.

Which model Argo do you have. I have the conquest and my neighbor just picked up an 85 industrial model 8x8. Mine just pops out with one quick release fastener at the bottom and his has 4 screws at the bottom that you take out and then pull up on the bottom a little to get it over two small square metal pieces and it comes right out. The only other experience I have is with an avenger at the dealer the other day and it pops right out like mine!
It's not a matter of life or death. It's much more important than that!

Easy firewall access on '06 Bigfoot

Reach down, turn the knob 1/4 turn, insert fingers into finger holes, and pull. Probably takes about 10 seconds to remove, and maybe a minute to put it back in.

          This one is from a 97 6x6

but my 85 8x8 is almost the same however it is easer because the wall is more flexible.

I will give it a go, when I changed the transmission oil it was freezing cold so it may be easier this time .

Still a bit of a pain though

On my 1985 Argo 8x8 I take out the front floor pan, two screws on the wheel wells, the two screws on the frame, disconnect the disk brake fan duct, remove the shifter knob and lift it out. It takes me about 3-5 minutes. Sometimes when I put it back in it goes in with no problem, and other times it won't line up right.

Your steering/brake levers do the go hight to the bottom in the passenger area or out near the top?

I got it out now I was just wondering if there was an easier way because it just didn't seem right to flex it so much.

The brake levers really get in the way I can see why the come out at the top on newer ones
