    Yesterday I went into our pond for the first time since purchasing our Argo 8x8 in December of 2013. Everything was fine and it was making it's way around the water and when I tried to get out I was having some trouble. I finally winched it out of the water and it will not move in any gear, it was making a squealing sound and I thought it was the belt. The belt seems good and dry, this is my first aatv and I'm very mechanical, I'm just looking for a place to start looking. Thank you for any help.

    It does sound as though something is slipping. Are your clutches working properly? If you are not sure how they should work, watch this video


    The belt should move up the engine clutch and down the secondary at the same time. It is hard to see in that poor video, but I hope you get the idea.
    If the clutches are working right, make sure the input shaft to the trans is turning. There is a key way in the shaft that holds the secondary clutch that could have sheared.
    If the input shaft turns, but the outputs do not.....it's inside your transmission.

      Jim, I take it the readout in your video is an engine rpm guage? Where did you get it from? Cheers Carl

        That one is a TTO bought off Ebay. There are many other brands available also, and range from about $20-40 for the tach/hourmeter combo. They trigger off the spark plug wire and are quite accurate, but hard to read due to the changing digital display...if you want easy to read in your tach, go with a analog model.

        The hour meter only versions (at a minimum) are invaluable for maintenance schedules and start at about $11....CHEAP!

          Thanks for the help. It was the key on the secondary clutch. When we got it used I'm assuming the previous owner had removed the bolt and washer that are supposed to hold the key from walking out. new key in and bolt and washer on the end of the transmission shaft and I'm good to go!! Thanks again.
