  • New Argo hood / soft top.

New soft top / hood for son's Argo, almost done, just a few fasteners to fit now
He's made a zip fastened roll up rear panel so when a little warm the back can be rolled up just leaving the roof on as a sunshade. No doors on this one.

Windshield is Argo part, top was made from scratch. We don't make patterns for one off's, we just make from measurements then try blank on and mark as neccessary.

Should be another windshield coming shortly though, I have to make one for mine (Argo parts are expensive over here).
Undecided on colour for my top yet though, we have an orange PVC that matches pretty close to my Argo. It may be too much orange though so may go with black.

hi Rod, a quick question on your windshield, i am presuming it is the same as on mine, it sits in a U channel at the bottom but there is nothing at the side of mine to stop it sliding side to side apart from a bead of mastic to the glass, am i missing something i was going to drill and tap holes in both side uprights to put an Ally strip to stop glass falling out

We take the glass out, clean it and the frame and reseal by laying the glass on a bead of Acrylic adhesive sealant (As in car body sealer) on the frame. It sticks it in place very effectively. We sometimes rivet a couple of little brackets at the top of the screen (again on a bead of sealer)

My window frame in my 1979 Argo was coming apart and the window would rattle and shift as there was nothing sealing the window tightly in the frame.
Seemed like someone removed whatever was sealing the window in, or whatever was there dried up and crumbled away.
So I removed the top piece of the widow frame holding the window in and slid the window up out of the frame.
We cut some pieces of rubber tubing to match the length of the window frame leaving room for the screws that secure the frame together.
We cut a slit down the middle of the tubing to create a cradle the window can sit in. We slid a piece of rubber tubing on the bottom side of the glass.
We then seated a piece of rubber tubing in each side of the window frame so it sits in the channel of the window frame.

We then used plumbers grease and greased the entire length of the window on each side so the window would slide down easily in the tubing. This was the hard part as it was a tight fit and was hard to do even with the plumbers grease.
We slid the window down into the window frame making sure the glass was cradled in the slit we cut in the rubber hose as we slid it down into place.
Once the window was back in, we put a piece of rubber tubing over the top of the glass and then put the top piece of the frame over the rubber tubing and tightened up the window frame.
It is now solid, no shaking, shifting or vibrating like it did before.
