Time for new shoes on my argo, a question.

Probably going with the Rawhide IIIs since I'm mostly dealing with gooey gumbo mud in this area, but still need swimming ability. I understand the Frontiers and runamuks are pretty delicate also. Can someone tell me first hand the tallest tire I can run on my 93 Vanguard? Shame its not a bigfoot because I could really use more clearance underneath. I'd appreciate any input!

Hey check out the video I posted of heaths argo in the Richmond Hill Swamps. He put those frontier tires through every kind of abuse you can imagine with out any problems what so ever. Logs, mud, swamp, water, trees. Those frontier tires are the best all around AATV tire you can get. They sit 23" tall so you'll also get ground clearance!!

I have posted some pics of my Conquest with the Frontier tires on it. I really like them so far, but have not had much of a chance to test them. A friend tried mine out ( I was out in the bush, working ), and he was very impressed. They climb VERY well up out of creeks and up steep gullies. They are also the best "swimmers" that I know of.

This is something to think about though-
They are a VERY tight fit. They are so close that they will rub togeather if not mounted correctly. By this, I mean that they are not "perfectly round", most tires of this sort are a little off. I had to rotate the tires on the hubs, in such a way, that no two "high spots" came togeather at the same time. (Took me a little while to figure it out the first time I put them on)
You will not get anything bigger to fit on your machine, I think they actually measure 23.75" and I believe that axle C to C is 24".

RD must have some big ones. The ones I measured were around 23.5" at 2.5 psi. Brandon came up with 23.25".

The axle spacing is 24" except the front two are about an 1/8" less. I measure my tires and put the smallest 4 on the front. They vary about a 1/4" from tall to short.

Hmm, I'll shop around for those, to be clear though, my vanguard model would have the same axle spacing as a conquest, correct?

I don't know how far back they go that they're the same, I've heard some older upper bodies won't take a taller tire. If you have a few inches body clearance in diameter now, then axle spacing would be your limit. I think you'll find yours is like ours, response, conquest, vanguard. Up until late model vanguards went to the spread axle spacing of the bigfoot. Those vanguards will take the 25" rawhides. All you have to do is take a tape measure to your axles or wheels, measure from the same spot on the front two axles. It should be around 23 and 7/8 inch apart.

3 psi is what I have been running. (but, back when I posted the pic of the Argo with the Buffalo in the back I had 2.5 psi in the tires.....it worked fine).

I never actually measured them myself, that's just what I was told.
Also, it was the front 2 axles on each side that gave me the most grief, I never knew that they were a little closer untill just a couple days ago ( i pulled off the tracks, and put the Frontiers back on for the summer)

I just got them from the local Argo dealer (they say you can't get them anyplace else?)

VanGuard will have the same axle spacing as a bigfoot. Measure it but you should have no problem with the frontier tires.

Wow, they swim great, still, thats hard to justify cost wise, after shipping, just too many other projects going that require money thrown at them.

So would the rawhides be a decent second best?

I don't have any experience with the Frontier tires, I have run the Rawhides and they swim good, but are not as good in the mud as more aggressive tires, but still not bad, they ride good as well...

Vampire makes a 22x12.5-9 tire, they are reported to be as good as anything in the mud and are proven swimmers, just another option for you to consider...

22" rawhide the general option. Argo doesn't have beadlock wheels so any tire he uses besides a runamuk or frontier will want to come off at less than 3ish lbs. Superswamper good in mud, no swim, will dismount also. He has 8" wheels, vampire? I don't think they make an 8" and the ones I've seen I wouldn't call them swimmers. He wanted a taller tire but in an 8 there's nothing besides the frontier. I wouldn't pay list price but think a guy could get them for a $100 if he waved money around. Could buy the rawhides and live with a short tire and not running low air pressure. The superswamper is great in mud but won't swim a lick.
