  • 2005 conquest bogging out

Hi Guys, my conquest runs great on the flat but bogs out about 30 sec's after starting a hill. I suspect that it is a fuel problem. The first thing that I will check is the pic-up tube in the tank. What else should I look at?
    Thanks, Ross

    Ross.
When a motor runs at slow or easy speed a fuel problem may not be apparent as it gets just enough for a no load condition.
An analogy I might use is this : When walking , your breathing supplies enough air for that energy used. Now wrap yourself in duct tape (not really... LOL) then take off running.
This might be ok for about 20 seconds until your body uses up all reserve oxygen stored and now desperately needs more. You can't get enough so you pass out.
It sounds like what your argo is doing. It gets enough fuel until you start going up hill. After it sucks up all the easy fuel it can..... it "passes out". !
I'd say you are right about clogged fuel line and filter.
It happened to me. The pick up screen was clogged and also the pick up tube after the screen was nearly blocked .
I needed to clean the tank also.

Just pull the fuel line off at the carb, and turn the key on. If u get plenty of fuel, that's not your problem.
I would lean more towards a fouled carb.
Another quick thing to check is the Pushrods. One might be bent, or u might have a sticky valve.

Same thing will happen with a clogged air filter.

Thanks for the advice. Pulled the fuel line and lots of fuel ( thanks RD ). Air cleaner is new so the next step will be the carb.

I'm thinking if it's fine on the flats, it's kicked a pushrod from sticky or stuck valve and running on 1.

Or driven clutch hanging up. If power is down on hills and turns could be either.

these are just guesses from 1000 miles away.

Thanks ARGOJIM. Yes it runs great on the easy stuff, lots of power, idle's good, starts good. Its just when I start up anything steep it starts to run real rough as if its not getting the fuel it needs. It may be running a little hot too, I'll have to check that next time out.
