Just bought this machine minus the engine and clutch. I know the kawasaki fd620d is not available anymore so what would be a good replacement engine for this machine. Diesel or gas. Any help would be grateful.

Believe there is a thread on turning a FD620D into a fd670d? 27 hp by member johnf?
Check the specs on the 25/27 horse injected FD engines, perhaps one will bolt right in. if not perhaps a briggs 23 or kohler aircooled would fit with engine plate mods., I think the radiator is much larger on the kohler water cooled.

There are also 2 used fd620d's on ebay in Cali now that could be candidates, both are untested and non running.

I put a 27hp Kawi into one of my Conquests. Very few modifications.
Mainly:
Drill out mounting plate holes from M8 to M10
Adjust one Bracket on the Mounting Plate (Zip off the existing plate, and weld on a piece of 1" Angle to replace it and move it over)
Cut about 5/8" off the end of the 27hp Crankshaft.
Adjust the Shoulder contact angle on the back side Bore of the Clutch (Dremel)

It took me 2 hrs to remove the stock engine, and 3 hrs to install the new engine.

You also have to adjust the exhaust a bit.

Where are you located. I have a low time FD620D in my garage that I need to get rid of.

I'd recommend a diesel engine myself, long before any gasser, but others may say differently perhaps a 3cyl car engine?

Have thought about that also. Have read a few threads on it. I think the noise is the biggest issue for people. But hey who knows. Maybe so...
