Hi, I know there are threads about this subjet but can't find them. I can hear a loud bang coming from the front left wheel of my avenger 2004. The chains and sprokets seam ok. Can anybody tell me what can cause that.

Jack up yout machine
Check for bearing play on outer bearings by lifting/wiggling wheel. Make sure that your front left chain tensioner is slackened off as the earlier tensioners can ratchet right up and pull an axle with a worn bearing backwards making you think it is OK.
Check Idler shaft bearings and idler shaft chain.
I have also seen old chain joining links stuck to the inside of a chain and it lifts the chain off the sprocket as it travels round
Check brake caliper is not slack either, and that the 3 power pack bolts are tight

Thanks guys, I checked the axel that I had welded before, no problem ( stronger than the original), there is no more chain tensioner in front, I took them off with the advice of a dealer. They are ok. The bearings are ok. It ended up to be the idler chain too loose. I'm putting my chanel tracks back on today and will see if it solved the problemJack
