Hi all, my 03 Conquest rear tire chain tension has been making a metallic noise, pretty systematically as the chain goes around. It is basically being forced loose then it snaps back, I ca't seem to make it any tighter and the spring seems to look ok. Its very annoying when driving and fi you can give me any guidance as to what I might be able to do. The pad and the rail guide don't look very bad so I am not sure what else to do? Thank you

Your chain is more than likely worn out and dont fit the sprocket teeth correctly and climbs up the teeth when running and thats what pulls your tentioner loose. When you stop to look at it it looks normal except your tentioner is loose again. running it like this will wear out your sprockets prematurely.

The 03 may still have the early tensioners with small teeth on the adjustment side. About 3/16 " high. The new ones are about 3/8 " tall. The early ones would catch and pop back. The other thing I find in the Argo is chains with stiff places that bounce the adjusters. If you can see which one is doing it pull the chain and roll it to see if there any bound up areas.

msafi65 - Thanks for the info on this. I *think* I have the newer ones. When I looked closer at what's going it, it appears that the puck/slide has been sawn through by the chain, I think much too much. I will have to get some replacements, sure wish I had them for this weekend! Looks like it's so rough that at some point the chain catches the edge of the puck and it makes it catch for a second and then it goes down, so thats the when the adjuster goes up and then adjusts back down.
