  • Coolant change 2003 conquest

I have been looking but have not been able to find the directions on doing this. I don't need the kawasaki ones, I know where the drain is I think. I have changed coolant plenty of times but the issue here is access. Not sure if there is an easier way to do this on the Argo. I doubt mine has been done and have changed everything else but this so any advice to get this job done would be appreciated.

    hi
A few suggestions . Drain by removing the bottom radiator hose. Ring an Argo dealer .There may be a engine block drain but every engine I have needed to do this on they are typically corroded shut .
Once u have drained coolant refill with de-mineralized water and drain again after getting engine to operating temp . This will ensure 99% coolant is changed . U can either use ready to fill coolant [recommended ] or batch the coolant yourself coolant and demineralized water 50/50 mix . Never ever use house/mains sourced water .
The option to this is to reverse flush radiator and engine with fitting [shop air and water ][ air pressure 15 psi ] The agitation of the water and air will remove debris in the system . Thermostat will need to be removed . If u r using a flushing agent and/or the system is very dirty it would be suggested the radiator be removed and serviced [tubes are rodded out ]. After clean out refill and drain with demineralized water again and refill with coolant

I think I might be in the minority for doing this but with motorcycles I was always told this was pretty critical. I decided to dive in and since there didn't seem to be a single post on it and its not covered in the service manual I was a little nervous. The engine manual describes how to do it including the two engine drain bolts for the water jacket. Since this doesn't seem to be a big issue I decided to skip the water jacket. I still was able to get 2.5 qts out including the resevoir.

The good news is, its pretty easy. Just take out the battery and the draincock is right there. Easily turned and caught most of it in a small pan. Refilled with Honda HP Coolant which I know is good for alum engines and is designed for bikes/atvs. Might not be really needed but this stuff is pretty well regarded in other forums for all sorts of Kawa engines so it seemed like a good bet.

Glad its done and I will probably do it again at the end of the season to try to get as much of the rest as possible and probably won't do again for 3 years.
