Preparing body for painting

Has anyone done anything special to help the body take to paint better? I have some residual paint left from a previous owner after a severe pressure washing and I just tried using crushed walnut shells through my abrasive blasting gun and it did nothing. The walnut shells took the paint off the metal parts of my engine I'm re painting but won't work on the plastic.

Anyone have a secret weapon you're not looking to keep secret? I'm gonna do a digital camo paint on the body but would like to clear old paint and scuff the plastic so it'll stick better.

If u would like more paint removal either try a higher percentage /volume of grit/media then a higher pressure then change to a different media . As u have mentioned bead blast ,walnut shell ,soda blast . As always try a small test section first .

U did not mention the type of plastic /fibre glass
Blasting to much can make the plastic go all fury
At some point u will have to decide just how much ""pressure "" do u place the plastic under to achieve a given result

If painting plastic u can add a flexable additive for some plastic situations

The best advice is to use a paint SYSTEM from one manufacturer which will 99 % be work proven

If painting a 2 part epoxy primer . Some can do salt water emersion also .
I found this is great for brushing onto axles /outer bearing assemblies
Make sure the primer can be sprayed and applied by brush

If it's HDPE then use thinners or paint stripper. Nothing seems to bother HDPE
