2005 Argo Big Foot transmission grinding

I purchased a used 2005 Argo Bigfoot and it always seemed to have a little grind when shifting .the previous owner said the idle needed tuned down a little. Since then it has gotten worse. I have to turn the engine off to shift. While working on the maintenance changing engine & transmission oils I noticed on the shifter holding lever part#34-86 has two nails instead of the two pin, spring- slotted part#111-01 inserted into the shifter. Could this be the problem with the grinding gears? Do the pin-springs allow you to put leverage pressure on the shifter to shift into gears?

JB idle speed is very important for shifting the Argo transmissions, if it's over 1000 rpm it will probably grind every time. This is not good.
As far as the nails, get them out and replace with roll pins ( pin-springs) for a firmer shift and the nails are probably bent from being to soft.
