Anyone out there had any luck painting an argo shell?

I read up on Krylon fusion, which was supposed to adhere to different types of plastics. spent a lot of time cleaning and preping the tub of an old conquest that im going thru but it didnt pan out. you can scratch the fusion paint off with your thumb nail, so I'm back to square one.

Hi Bobby, unfortunately there is not a good way to paint our machines. You can get the HDPE to take the paint but with the amount of flexing that our bodies do, it just won't last. If you are set on painting it, search the site. There have been several threads on the topic with a lot more information than I can type here regarding what others have tried but at the end of the day, none of them last very long.

I agree with Mike. I've tried painting both HDPE and UHMW plastics on several occasions. Every time the paint has failed within days or weeks. Even the camo adhesive wraps have failed quickly.

I have managed to use a heat gun to bring the body nearly back to original color by removing the haze and oxidation that accumulates over the years. That's about as good as it gets.

Believe it to be from the textured finish of the plastic being porous and trapping air, have been trying to depaint an Attex off and on and it's on in some spots so well it hasn't and yet the rest blew right off. It was thick and primered. A shame.

Consult paint maker first and notify them of the substrate [base material]
It may well be vast quantities of preparation at least 3 days
Possibly be an additive into the primer and top coat
A durable system is 2 part epoxy primer then a eurathane top coat , industrial paints
Dries rock hard and pricey

I usually just email myself a pic from my phone if I need it on my work computer. That seems to be the easiest way when you can't hook your phone up through the usb and transfer.

Wheeler is right. PlastiDip works great on HDPE. Lasts forever, and you can peel it off, if you don't like it anymore.

I just last night painted the stripes on the side and the max logo on the back with black plastidip. I think it came out real nice. I'm gonna see if my son or daughter can help get the pics on here, so you can see. Here's an update on the other plasti dipped parts on the front of the wheeler. I had the wheeler going over trees and heavy brush all deer season. I have no marks on the plasti sprayed parts. NONE! I could not myself believe it. The front wheels were sprayed also and they are just fine. Everybody should consider it and give their own try. I by no means work for the company or represent them in any way. I just tested the stuff myself and it works so good on HDPE.

What about rhyno liner. As in the truck bed liner does that work, im thinking that it might be good to put on the bottem seeing as how it slides across alot of stuff.

Has anyone rhynol8ned the tub of their argo, i seen a post about paint not sticking but im curious about the liner

One the my max ii's I bought had the entire section behind the seat rhinolined and although it looked nice it didnt take lake to all flake right off... I'd have to assume same would go for argo... sorry

Anything you put on the bottom is coming off. There is so much friction to the bottom that nothing is going to stay on unless it is impregnated into the plastic. Also Rhino liner will keep the machine from sliding over things that you really need the bottom to be slick for. Rhino liner is abrasive and won't allow the bottom to slide properly.
