Can someone tell me about synthetics? What type I need for a '96' Vanguard II? Where to get them and approx. price? Thanks.

The only option I've heard of is Here at Adair Argo.

I have a set on an Argo Frontier. They work great, no leaks, no issues. Here's what they look like when doubled up on an axle.

Ok. Thanks. Think I'll start checking around for some.

A bit of a follow up on the original question..... does the synthetic bearing actually support the axle or does it simply extend the bearing distance from the frame. I machined up a synthetic bearing for my steam boat propeller shaft. After 12 years of use underwater.... the only wear I found was on the bronze shaft.

The bearing supports the axle, and does it well. I highly recommend the Adair synthetic bearings.
