  • Axle bearing flanges fitting drain plugs.

As my Argo is driven on a coastal beach by 11 different people sometimes in emergency circumstances- it gets a rough old time.

The Argo is a 2004 Avenger with the old outer bearings and flanges (not bothered converting to HD bearings after stories of their use in saltwater.

Has anyone ever thought of fitting drain plugs to the bottom of the outer bearing flanges- to effectively allow a full grease change without bursting seals or having to unbolt the flange?

Would be interested in thoughts on this?

The seals are flanged to allow grease out and keep water out, the should not burst. (seals are slanted outwards) The outer seal, which is horizontal fitting, is a cavity just to hold grease with no contact to bearing and the inner seal is the vertical fitting for bearing contact.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.
