  • It's alive!!!

Finally got to do a lap around the yard with the old mid 80s(?) argo IC(?) 8 wheeler project I picked up 6 weeks or so ago. Got tires on it, changed the oil, put a Mr. Gasket low pressure elec fuel pump in it running from a gas can. Lots of monkey motion but I really needed to see it move
Now I can get the fuel tank back in it, get the new chains on it, put bolts in the axles so they all work (one or two have sheared pins so they are all getting bolts when the chains are off), put the winch & mount syetem on, add the brake cooling kit from an old parts machine, & I don't even remember what else all before the end of August so I can take it moose hunting in Sept.
Oh & I also need to get a flat bed trailer (19' deck) to haul it on made out of an old tamdem axle travel trailer frame I bought...
Yikes, I need to get to work!

Man that little lap felt good...

A little ride to motivate you, eh? Keep those wrenches moving. You'll be done in no time.

Thanks guys. It was a fun but short ride. It was nice to know the tranny works in high/low & reverse. It has a brand new driven clutch on it & the guys I got it from said the reason he parked it several years ago was because when he put the new clutch on it had some problems (he couldn't remember what0 that made it inoperable, so I wanted to see what the issue was. Worked fine for me although even at idle it does still want to spin the driven clutch (I can stop it with my foot) so I will have to do a little playing. Idle is already pretty low.
I would still like to know what year it is. Gas tank filler is on the machines left (when sitting in seat) & folks tell me that's a clue but they haven't told me when that stopped. Hydraulic brakes (short levers are conversion but was always hydraulic), double roller #50 (#40 double primary), 17hp Kohler. Data plate missing on engine & Argo :-(

As for pics I will try & attach the latest. Only difference is 4 good tires on each side.

          What's the trans number?
          sigpic

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
          Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Hi Vance, If you ever manage to get the secondary clutch to stop spinning at idle, please let us know. My Avenger is always spinning a little at idle but shifts fine as long as the idle is slow. It idles right at the point where the volt gauge reads 12 with the brake fan on, but the headlights off. Good luck beating your September deadline.

Love the matching paint sheme on the tow rig DD! Let me know as you learn tips & tricks.
Phillip, I tried it yesterday & it went in gear without grinding so I'm happy.

Got all my new chains on (except ,#40 primary). Working on new seat & getting fuel tank back in tonight.

2015-07-04_14-57-34_949.jpgCongratulations on getting her going. Feels good, I've had mine going for about six weeks with only minor issues. I don't know how I did without her!
